Title: American Gods
Author: Neil Gaiman
Format: Hardbound/Trade Paperbound/mass market

This book is, in my humble bookseller opinion, Neil Gaiman’s most brilliant piece of work. Set in America, you travel the globe through mythology. As I have told people in the past, the premise is as people migrate from the old world to the new, they bring their gods with them. And the gods are not just ideas, they are real people. As mortals turn away from the old gods, the gods need jobs. They become butchers and taxi drivers, with the power of gods. You get to ride along with Shadow, a young man with a dark past trying to find his way in this newly discovered world. Mentoring him along the way is Mr. Wednesday, a strange fellow who keeps telling Shadow that he “is here to help.” All and all, American Gods is a delightful twist on some old classic tales. I would recommend this title to anyone who is looking for something outside of dragons and spaceships from the science fiction and fantasy section of their local bookstore.
